about

Ian is a artist, innovator, and storyteller from upstate NY exploring the intersections between percussion performance and live electronics. Ian earned his DMA in Percussion Performance from West Virginia University in 2021 with research focused on the intersection of live musical performance and emergent technologies. His dissertation ‘Touching Light‘ explores music-making in Mixed Reality facilitated by the Microsoft HoloLens 2 and was premiered as a live musical recital on May 1st, 2021.

As a founding member of the Vangarde and Nautilus Percussion Groups, Ian seeks to broaden the horizons of percussive soundscapes through the integration of electronics as a part of live performance. Nautilus serves as an experimental percussion ensemble blending the rhythmic and tonal language of North Indian classical music, the groove-elements of European frame-drumming traditions, and the limitless palette afforded through electronic augmentation to encourage audiences to ‘listen deeper.’

Ian is available for lessons, clinics, performances, and commissions.
